Scream : Movie Research
1. What genre conventions were used?
Conventions used in SCREAM were certainly dramatized close ups and Dutch angles. They expressed the convention of lighting with dark, and underexposed tones throughout the movie. Actors portrayed the feelings and actions of fear and distraught. We liked the use of the movie's conventions of props, consisting of weaponry with ammo, as well as knives. Sound conventions used were dialogue, sound motifs, and diegetic sound.
2. What conventions were liked?
There were many conventions of the film that our group enjoyed in SCREAM. As for example, the sound motifs. Sound motifs occurred when something in particular was happening, such as the killer approaching, which initially helped to build suspense in the film. We also enjoyed conventions of lighting, as the shadows, and darkness added to a sense of mystery and the unknown. The use of dramatized closeups were also a favorite in the group.
3. What conventions were disliked?
Whilst there were many enjoyable aspects to the film, there were some we did not enjoy as much. One in particular was the acting. It was not horrible, but some actors performed in a way of stupidity and gave us, and surely other viewers, a sense of cringe. Besides that, there wasn't anything else we saw a disliking towards.
