Production Blog : Film Change

Image
Hey blog family! I am back again and you know what that means! Just a little away from sharing my amazing opening sequence! I am so excited to have my amazing blog family see the final results.  As you know, I recently shared with you some comments made on my opening sequence. I got to share my group's "short film" with a peer of my choice. I chose my mother and peer Jahziah. As they watched the video, I told them to give me any feedback, constructive and blunt. I needed it to make my project better. Ultimately, they didn't complain much about it. They loved the editing aspect. Such as the lighting and exposure, angles, and sound effects. They really complimented the costumes, backgrounds, and acting. They both concluded that the vibe and the realistic feeling of the movie made it well. However, there were a few remarks the group took into consideration. Jahziah said that one the clips towards the opening of the film was shaky. After reviewing the film, we found whic

Production Blog : Film Review

Hey blog! I'm back, and this time my opening sequence is done! However, you won't be  seeing it just yet. Someone, on the other hand, got to see it. For our opening sequence, we were able to select someone to review it. I chose both, my mother and my great friend and fellow school peer, Jahziah. I initially just wanted my mothers opinion, but having a peer in AICE media studies review my opening sequence could be beneficial. Overall, similar comments were made. They both enjoyed the storyline. They liked how the scenes were clear and in sequence. The costumes were of great use as well. Jahziah said they added to the mood and vibe of the movie, and added to the horror scenery and genre. My mother said my brother, wearing all black, made him look like an actual perpetrator in a horror film. They both loved the use of the Scream mask and the knife prop as well. Jahziah mentioned how she enjoyed the realistic setting in the beginning. The background noise and cars honking while w

Production Blog: Editing

Hello Blog! I'm back, and this time with more progress on the editing of our opening sequence. Kylee, our dedicated editor decided it would be best to split up the project to work into sections. It made a lot of sense to Hailey and I. In a sense that it would initially help the editing process run more efficiently. And if anything were to go wrong anyway, we had the project shared, and were able to collaborate right in the moment. The idea of splitting sections also allowed involvement from all group members in one aspect or another. Kylee was quick about her selected section. She claimed to edit the ending scenes because she enjoyed them most. She said watching it was intruiging, and it would be the enjoyable to edit. We didn't compete nor complain with her pick, because she was the initial editor. So, it was kind of what kylee wants, kylee gets, type of situation! LOL. We seperated our planning into 3 different days. In which we would complete different tasks. Day 1, we work

Hello blog fam and welcome back to another blog! Each time we talk we are getting closer to sharing our opening sequence! I am so excited to share with you all. Me and my groupmates have worked so hard so far. We are so eager to publish our art! The next thing we needed to discuss is the editing. Without an editing software, how were we supposed to put everything together to publish! The editing software we chose for this project is Cap-Cut. Similar to all of our other tasks, we are using Cap-Cut. My groupmates and I have all used Cap-Cut before. We agreed it would be the easiest editing software application to use to put everything together. Cap-Cut just makes everything so much easier then other applications such as Adobe. It allows for Hailey, Kylee and I to share the certain project between different devices. This is essential is one of us needs to work on it when another can't. In addition to sharing, Cap-Cut is fairly easily to work and navigate. Every filter, cropping, trimm

Production Blog : Change of Plans

Image
Hello blog! It's been somewhat of a stressful week. However, we are getting close to the end of this project. At least that brings some reassurance and sanity to me. The opening sequence has been running smoothly so far. However, there were  slight change of plans made. It was nothing major, as was able to be adjusted to easily. We were set the film to days throughout the week. Tuesday and Thursday, with the addition of the weekends. Recently, I had to commit to practice everyday of the week for a cheer team. Hailey and Kylee cheer for the same gym and team like me. It made our schedules somewhat easier because we practiced on the same days. That isn't the case anymore. I now practice Tuesdays and Thursdays. I used to only practice on Monday and Wednesday with my groupmates, leaving 2 days during the week to progress through our assignment.  Although it isn't a severe change, it conflicts with our progress. In a sense that, we now have limited time to get together and work

Production Blog : Music

Hello blog I'm back! Each time we talk, the closer we are to sharing our opening sequence. It is all coming together piece by piece. The next step into our project, was selecting our music. My teacher informed the class that we either had the chance of using owned music or audios off of royalty free music. However, with owned music, you must contact the company or actual owners to be granted permission to use their sound. We would have to receive an email stating the confirmation before we were able to continue with our project. After me and my groupmates discussed, we decided that we don't know how long we'd have to wait to hear back or if they would charge anything. We were only hesitant about royalty free music because the sound choices would be on the generic side. There was a chance of others having either similar, or the same song choices for their opening sequences or movies already out there.  However, it was all going to work out! Royalty free music was copyright

Production Blog : Props

Image
Hello blog family! I love how consistent we've been getting. This project is coming along and I know you all can't wait to see the final product. If you've been keeping up with my previous rants, you know quite a bit about my upcoming project. Today, I wanted to discuss some of the props we will be using. I wonder if humans count as any. Hmm? Just kidding! As you know, we chose the genre of horror. So, we obviously had to base our props off of that while keeping in mind our own opening sequence, and what we needed. When we did our research common things in horror films were weapons, masks, blood, chains, and dark clothing. For our film, we had the killer, Jonathan, wear all black clothing instead of having to purchase a black suit or black villain costume, or whatever those things are called. For Jonathan, one purchase we did make for him was a mask. We found a scream movie mask online and purchased it. We got it off of amazon for a decent price. We all ended up loving the

Production Blog : Location

Image
Hey blog! It's Marissa once again, talking to you lovely folks. Today I will discussing some locations and "sets"' chosen for our opening sequence. It surely wasn't a difficult time choosing where we were going to film, but it took a little bit of time. For the last project, my groupmates and I had no idea where we were filming. We were in between a friends house, a friend of a moms house, or one of ours. We sort of waited too long, and didn't receive confirmation from anyone, so we ended up filming at my house. So, similar to last, we were in between a friends house or one of ours. Since we used my house last time, we decided to use it again as one of the locations. However, for our opening sequence we needed a separate location. So, we chose Hailey's house as the other place. Although Kylee's house is much closer to mine, Hailey's sister is helping film, and we didn't want to inconvenience her by leaving her home. It wasn't that much of

Production Blog : Filming

Hey blog I am back again! I have an update as to where we are with our filming for the movie opening. If you recall, I told you how my brother, along with Hailey and Kylee and I, are participating in the film. Hailey filmed the first few scenes, and then had to relocate to her house. At her house, either her sister or my brother would film her in the scenes. In the scenes where my brother and Hailey both appeared, we had her sister, Kaitlyn, assist with filming. We continued filming on another day. Or should I say a scary night!  So, at this point we are filming the second portion of the film. Hailey is located in her room, about to sit down at her desk. We use her laptop to join a google meet call with Kylee and I. In later blogs we will share the technology and creativity behind the use of google meet, and its role in the opening sequence. Jonathan then films Hailey exiting her room, and through her house. At this point, we have to switch to Kaitlyn filming because Jonathan will be

Hello and welcome back blog fam!  It's been a long time since we communicated, and I have missed you all very much. As you know, me and my groupmates, Hailey and Kylee, are working on a horror opening for a film. Today was our first day of filming! Before we even met, we had to negotiate a good time for all of us to get together, and where to film. We agreed to, once again, to film at my house, and to film during the night. We chose to nighttime to really emphasize the horror and dark effect for the audience. We planned to execute our filming after the time of 6:00pm, to make sure the sun was down and  remain somewhat dark in the house. We chose to film on Tuesdays and Thursdays because of our busy and diverse schedules. To begin the film, Kylee and I would be the actors in the clip. We had Hailey recording since she wasn't needed just yet. We tried to act as natural as possible, but was sort of difficult because Kylee tends to laugh a lot and act silly. So it definitely took s
